Colorado is bordered on the north by Wyoming, by Nebraska and Kansas on the east, by New Mexico and Oklahoma on the south, and by Utah on the west. Colorado is the 8th largest state by area, and with a population of approx. 4.3 million, is the 22nd most populous.
The state was named after the Spanish word "colorado", which means "reddish colored" . Colorado was admitted as a state on August 1, 1876, thus becoming known as "The Centennial State". Major industries include agriculture, government employment, and high tech industries.
Colorado has a flat rate tax of 4.63% of an individual's federal taxable income, and also has other taxes including a state sales tax of 2.9% and a property tax.
In 2008, Coldwell Banker looked at the cost of a typical 2,200-square-foot house with 4 bedrooms, 2 1/2 bathrooms, a family room and a two-car garage.
