Illinois is bordered to the north by Wisconsin, by Lake Michigan, Indiana and Kentucky to the east, and Missouri and Iowa to the west.
Illinois is the 25th largest state by area, and with a population of approx. 12,4 million, is the fifth most populous state. Illinois' major industries include agriculture (corn, soybeans, wheat, oats, barley, rye, sorghum), cattle, manufacturing, and mining. Illinois nicknames include the "Prairie State" and "Land of Lincoln". The state name comes from from the word Illini, a confederation of the Cahokia, Kaskaskia, Michigamea, Moingwena, Peoria and Tamaroa Indian tribes.
Illinois has several state taxes, including a personal income tax, currently a flat tax of 3% of net income, a state sales tax, and property tax, which is the main revenue source for the state.
