Montana is bordered by Canada on the north, by North and South Dakota on the east, by Wyoming and Idaho on the south, and by Idaho on the west. Montana is the 4th largest state by area, and with a population of approx. 900,000, is the 4th most populous state. Major industries in Montana include farming (wheat, sugar beets), cattle ranching, mining (gold, silver, copper, coal), oil, lumber, and tourism. Montana was admitted to the Union as the 41st state on November 8,1889. The name Montana is the from the Spanish word from mountainous. The nickname for the state of Montana is Big Sky Country, and Treasure State. 3 of the 5 entrances to Yellowstone National Park are in Montana.

Montana has several state taxes, including a personal income tax, and property taxes, but has no state sales tax.
