The Rancho Palos Verdes Plannin Commission will continue its review of a proposed 40-unit affordable housing complex for seniors at its next public hearing on January 27th. AMCAL Multi-housing Inc., plans to build a two story apartment complex on a 19.3 acre parcel at the northwest corner of Crestridge Road and Crenshaw Boulevard. The units will be restricted to residents age 55 and older.
The Project will also include a 1,100 sq. ft. clubhouse, 58 parking spaces and a bocce court. About 17 acres of the property would be disgated open space. The sitge is quite hilly and will require a 25 foot retaining wall to provide a flat site for construction. The City’s Redevelopment Agency purchased the site in 2000 for $700,000. The City must provide affordable housing at this site by March 2010 or otherwise it could be forced to sell the site.
This project is still controversial with nearby residents, and they will get a chance to air their views at up-coming Planning Commission Meetings.
