Both Palos Verdes Peninsula High and Palos Verdes High ranked high in the latest Washington Post High School rankings.

The Washington Post ranked schools state-by-state, and nationally, based on the number of college-level tests given at a school in 2012 divided by the number of graduates that year. Also considered were the percentage of students who come from families that qualify for lunch subsidies and “equity and excellence” (E&E), the percentage of graduates who passed at least one college-level test during their high school career, called equity and excellence.

Palos Verdes Peninsula High School was ranked 31st in the state and was ranked 279th out of the 1,900 schools nationally for how it prepares students for college and PV High ranked 33rd in the stateand 295th nationally as of Tuesday.. For Palos Verdes High, this is a tremendous improvement over last year’s rankings. In 2012, PV High was ranked at No. 543 nationally and No. 61 statewide.

Only 9 percent of the country €™s approximately 22,000 schools made the list, including 229 in California.
