My youngest son, Kevin, who is a student at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo majoring in City and Regional Planning with an econ and real estate minor, is off to Moscow on Wednesday to visit a girl he met last summer while working at the Terranea Resort. He was a pool boy at the Terranea spa ( tough summer job ! ) and she was a college student here for the summer. She is studying the hospitality industry. They have kept up their friendship via Skype on their computers the past year.
He is going for about 5 weeks, about 3 weeks in Moscow and 2 weeks in St. Peterburg. It has been interesting preparing for the trip, plowing through the complexities of getting a visa, double checking insurance coverage, finding a reasonable air fare ( about $1,500 non-stop roundtrip on Aeroflot, the Russian national airline ), updating vaccinations, etc.
It will be an exciting adventure for him,
