Seaview Area Homes in Rancho Palos Verdes Historical Landmarks?

Some homeowners in the Seaview area of Rancho Palos Verdes have been trying to get their homes designated as historically significant as many of the homes in the area were designed by a famous black architect Paul R. Williams and were constructed in the late 1950’s. The homeownerrs would like the City of Rancho Palos Verdes to create an historic preservation ordinance which would enable homeowners in the area to enter a 10 year contract with ther city under the Mills Act. In exchange for the homeowners promise not to maintain and keep up the properties the homeowners would enjoy reduced property taxes.

The question that I ask is if the following architecture is historically worthy of preservation:

About 190 houses in the Seaview neighborhood, such as this house on Dauntless Drive, of Rancho Palos Verdes were designed by famed architect Paul R. Williams who is known as an architect to the stars. (Steve McCrank Daily Breeze Staff Photographer).

Although many of these homes are quite attractive and well maintained, I hardly think that they qualify for historical preservation. The City Council of Rancho Palos Verdes also felt the same way and decided against passing the ordinance. What do you think?
