One of the last remaining links to a distant past of farming in the South Bay may soon be fading into the Palos Verdes Peninsula landscape.
“It’s kind of a sad thing that I have to do, but I just can’t maintain it now,” said Sande Ishibashi, whose late father-in-law, James “Kat” Ishibashi, lived on the ranch and farmed the surrounding area.
The 5-acre ranch is a reminder of a time when dozens of Japanese-American farmers harvested crops on a hillside that is now dotted with houses and golf courses.
