“Cowboy Days” Celebration at RHE Empty Saddle Club This Weekend
This year marks the 20th anniversary of Cowboy Days hosted by The Empty Saddle Club in Rolling Hills Estates. This year's event will be held in conjunction with the Steve Harris Memorial Fund Raiser. Redondo Beach Lobsterfest This Weekend
As reported in the Daily Breeze, The Redondo Beach Surf 'N Turf Lobster Festival kicks off its three-day run Friday night at Seaside Lagoon, and up to 12,000 hungry lobster aficionados are expected to raise their forks to honor the clawed crustacean that once sustained this continent's earliest inhabitants. Rolling Hills Estates Organizing for Public Lands Day
As reported by Meredith Skrzypczak of the Palos Verdes Patch, Palos Verdes residents can celebrate the 18th annual National Public Lands Day by helping to clear invasive plant species from a local preserve on Saturday. After making a strong comeback in the average price per sq. ft. of homes sold in Rolling Hills Estates for the previous 3 month period from March to June, the most recent 3 month period showed a 20% decline in price per sq. ft. for properties sold. During the early 1900's the Dicalite Company began mining diatomaceous earth in the area now occupied by the South Coasrt Botanical Gardens off of Crenshaw Blvd, the former Palos Verdes Landfill site between Hawthorne and Crenshaw, and Ernie Howlett Park off of Hawthorne Blvd, , but at this time it was mostly surface mining.
