HAPPY FATHERS DAY !!!! I hope everyone has a wonderful Fathers Day. In 1909, Sonora Doddbegan acelebration of Father's Day in Spokane, influenced by a mothers day celebration begun the prior year in West Virginia, A bill to accord national recognition of the holiday was introduced in Congress in 1913. In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson went to Spokane to speak in a Father's Day celebration and wanted to make it official, but Congress resisted, fearing that it would become commercialized. Great Fathers Day Brunch and Dinner at the Lunada BayHouse Restaurant
The Lunada Bayhouse restaurant in the Lunada Bay Patio Building is serving a fantastic Fathers Day brunch this morning. If you miss their Fathers Day celebration this morning, take Dad there for dinner tonight. This is my favorite restaurant and is just around the corner from where i live. The food is fantastic, including their delicious seafood as well as steaks and pasta entrees. The portions are huge, they have a great appetizer menu, and their soups ( try the crab bisque or the clam chowder, both are fantastic ) are [...]
Mortgage Interest Rates
Interest rates remained flat over the last week, and mortgage rates for Jumbo loans are still particularly attractive, down to the low 5% level. The following are some excerpts from this week's newsletter on interest rates from HSH Associates : "Mortgage rates spent a good part of the spring on following the economy down but do seem to be leveling off as we step into Summer." "Given the wide differential in interest rates, at least some borrowers should be considering hybrid 5/1 ARMs; whose five-year fixed periods now average just 3.39%, up [...]

Draft Plan for Redistricting Finally makes sense for Palos Verdes Peninsula
Proposed redistricting maps released Friday would dramatically alter the face of the South Bay's political landscape, eliminating two of the region's congressional districts and once again linking the Palos Verdes Peninsula to its coastal neighbors. The California Citizens Redistricting Commission's first draft maps released Friday carve out completely new congressional and legislative boundaries across the state. The panel is required to approve final maps by Aug. 15. The 14-member commission, created in 2008 when voters approved Proposition 11, used public testimony and the new U.S. census data to develop new congressional and [...]

City of Rancho Palos Verdes to Look at Alternative locations for Skateboard Park
The City Council of the City of Rancho Palos Verdes voted to look at alternative locations for a skateboard park within city boundaries rather than locating the park at Lower Hess Park. I am in favor of a skateboard park on the Palos Verdes Peninsula. When my 3 boys were younger, they all loved to skateboard, and this would be a great way to give our kids a place to gather instead of malls, on school property, etc. Example of skateboard park design This is the same response that the City [...]
An Open Letter to Rancho Palos Verdes City Council regarding building a dog park
Dear Council members , City Manager and Parks Staff: I saw that the City Council has just voted to seek an alternative location for a skateboard park instead of Lower Hess Park. I would like to remind you that this was the same promise that you gave us dog park supporters a number of months ago and nothing has progressed on that per my discussion recently with Katie Howe of the Parks Dept. I still think that the County's former Palos Verdes Landfill site would be a great location for both [...]
