Rolling Hills Estates 54th Annual Old-Fashioned City Celebration

The City of Rolling Hills Estates is pleased to commemorate its 54th anniversary with an old-fashioned City Celebration on Saturday, September 17, 2011 at the Empty Saddle Club, located at 39 Empty Saddle Road.

Residents, friends, family, and neighbors are invited to join the day-long festivities, which will feature a barbecue dinner, a poker ride, equestrian events, haywagon rides, pony rides, a petting zoo, and an assortment of fun games and activities, such as three-legged races, a hay jumping pit, and horseshoe matches.

A barbecue lunch will be served by the Palos Verdes 4-H Club and a variety of beverages may be purchased from the Empty Saddle Club. Dinner will be served by the Los Compadres service organization from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m., and will include a delicious full barbecue meal from Chicago for Ribs at only $12 for adults and $6 for children (aged 12 and under).

Numerous equestrian activities will be held throughout the entire day, including Gymkhana events and the Lomita Sheriff Posse Color Guard, as well as equine and dressage demonstrations, and a performance by the Junior Drill Team.

At only $10 per hand, card-playing carriage drivers and horseback rides may want to try their luck in the 19th Annual Poker Ride. Non-riders who wish to participate can purchase tickets and have a riding friend carry them. Players may register at Chandler Park for the one-hour ride anytime from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Winners will be announced at 2:00 p.m. at the Palos Verdes Peninsula Horsemens Association (PVPHA) booth.
