San Pedro Port Commissioners Clear the Way for USS Iowa

The Commissioners of the Los Angeles Port Authority have approved providing berth space for the moth=balled USS Iowa at the downtown San Pedro Harbor location previously planned for a marina “cut-out” . The volunteer organization that is raising contributions and will operate the attraction ( Pacific Battleship Center) is preparing an application to “adopt” the historical WW !! ship from the Navy, which is planning to donate the “Big Stick” , as it was nicknamed, to either an Alameda group or to the San Pedro organization.

If the Navy accepts the center’s bid, the Iowa could be opened to visitors in April 2013.
